The Salmon Valley Fire Department is the heart of our community. We’re more than a fire hall — we’re a team, a family, and a group of neighbors who care deeply about keeping our community safe. Those who walk through our doors know that without volunteers and dedicated training, our hall simply wouldn’t exist.

We know life is busy — ours is too. But here’s what we can promise you: becoming a volunteer firefighter will add immense value to your life. You’ll be part of something special, you’ll grow in incredible ways, and you’ll discover the joy of teamwork, service, and community.

What We Do

Our department’s first priority is structure fire protection, and we are proud to be an exterior hall. That means we don’t go inside burning buildings, but we do train and operate at a high level in:

  • Exterior fire operations (and all that goes along with it)

  • Wildland firefighting & Structure Protection

  • Pumps and Pumping

  • Vehicle Extrication

  • Driver training

  • Medical first response

  • Livestock emergency management

  • Team Lead & Incident Command

  • Traffic control & Scene Safety

  • And much more!

All of your training is fully paid for, making this an amazing opportunity for anyone who wants to build experience, grow their skills, and even prepare for a future career as a first responder or add a bit more excitement into your life.

Training & Commitment

We take our training seriously — but we have a lot of fun while we do it.

  • Weekly Training: Every Tuesday night, 7–9 PM

  • Attendance: We ask for a minimum of 60% attendance each year

  • Extra Opportunities: Weekend training in live fire, team leadership, first responder certifications, and more

Training begins each November with your rookie package. Once you’ve learned the basics and demonstrated your skills, you’ll be ready to attend call-outs and start your probationary period. After six months of dedicated training and hands-on learning, you’ll be promoted to Firefighter.

Throughout this journey, you’ll be supported, encouraged, and welcomed into an amazing team.

Why Join?

  • Be part of a close-knit, supportive team

  • Learn valuable skills that will serve you for life

  • Gain experience for future first responder careers

  • Give back to your community in a meaningful way

  • Have fun, make friends, and feel proud of your contribution
